Submissions

Submissions are open at Local Files Club. I’m looking for audio fiction projects between 15 and 90 minutes long, in any genre, and are happy to assess projects in any stage of development, from idea to fully produced. Our releases also include bonus features like soundtracks, commentary tracks, artwork, and more—please include details about any ideas for bonus materials if you have them.

Please note that Local Files Club does not offer production services at this time.

Fill out the contact form below with some information about you and your project and I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Artist FAQ

What services does Local Files Club provide?

  • Distribution: Local Files Club distributes audio fiction as one-off, upfront purchases, like a music album.
  • Marketing and publicity: We’re building our own audience of devoted listeners who appreciate and want to support these types of audio fiction projects, and by releasing with Local Files Club, you’ll tap into that audience and community for years to come. Plus, we’ll support your project with outreach to reviewers and listeners across the fiction podcast landscape.
  • Creative support: Making audio fiction can be a lonely endeavor. Founder Adam Cecil is here as a sounding board for your ideas, or to give notes on scripts and edits. And if you need more support, he’ll connect you to the right people, in and out of our internal network.

What qualifies as audio fiction?

I consider “fiction” a wide umbrella covering everything from full-cast audiodramas to single-narrator storytelling to experimental field recordings. I’m also interested projects that toe the line between non-fiction and fiction, as long as they utilize dramatic techniques to tell the story.

Above all: the more idiosyncratic, the better.

Bonus features?

Bonus features! Like a DVD or Blu-Ray release, or material you might release as a bonus episode or in a membership program. Think: full soundtrack, commentary tracks, additional artwork or a PDF zine, demos, bloopers, alternate endings—and whatever else you can dream up.

Why should I sell my project instead of releasing it as a podcast?

There are many ways for fiction podcasts to make money—advertising, membership programs, live shows, to name a few—but these monetization models don’t work for every project. That’s why I’ve set up Local Files Club as an alternative model. It’s another option on the menu for audio fiction producers and artists, particularly well-suited for short-form and experimental work that would otherwise struggle with advertising and membership programs.

For these types of shows, I believe an upfront payment from listeners—akin to buying music, a book, or a film, or a ticket to a theatre show—is a better model. It’s a one-to-one exchange with the listener, without involving data brokers, expectations around future releases, constant upkeep of a monthly membership program, or roundabout funding methods that take energy out of the actual production of the show.

Listeners will still get access to materials that help deepen their connection to you and the show through bonus materials like commentary tracks, soundtracks, artwork, and whatever else you can dream up. Local Files Club releases these together with the show in a singular package, combining what might otherwise be released as a free podcast and Patreon members-only content.

Can I submit an already-released show?

I’m interested in helping existing shows monetize with remastered and/or deluxe editions—send a message using the contact form above and let me know what you’re thinking.
