While we were working to get [*Ms. Shipton’s Travelling Tea Shop*](https://www.localfiles.club/lfc-001-ms-shipton/) launched last fall, Oliver Morris from Skadi’s Symphony messaged me saying they had another script for a similarly structured short audiodrama, and maybe I’d like to take a look? It was very different from *Ms. Shipton*. Where *Ms. Shipton* is all pastoral scenery and quiet introspection, [*God Under Siege*](https://www.localfiles.club/lfc-004-god-under-siege/) takes a *Hitchhiker’s Guide*\-esque kitchen sink approach to sci-fi, shoving a million ideas into a tiny rocket ship and enjoying the goo that seeps out. Then that goo gains consciousness and questions the very nature of its existence. Kind of like us. Obviously, I had to have it on Local Files Club, but I attempted to play it cool while Skadi’s Symphony produced it, only checking in once or twice a day to see when it might be ready. I’m thrilled that it’s finally here as LFC-004, capping off our first year of audiodrama releases in explosive fashion. Told over six episodes, *God Under Siege* is the story of spacefaring waster Daxx Neutrino, who is putting God under siege with just the company of his trusty computer. Unbeknownst to Daxx, it’s not just the two of them. On the other side of an invisibility shield are two agents, Mike and Ruth. Ostensibly there to protect God, they spend most of their time taking copious notes on Daxx’s habits. They watch what he eats. They watch him sleep. They can even see his dreams. Most of the time, they wonder: Who is the mysterious Zoltan who seems to haunt Daxx’s adventure? *God Under Siege* also features five interludes chock full of surreal advertisements from across space and time, crafted by guest sound designers like [*Salt Bloom*](https://www.localfiles.club/lfc-002-salt-bloom/)’s Justin Hellstrom. As a frequent listener of old-time radio shows that are stuffed with advertisements for cigarettes and, unrelatedly, life insurance, I *love* these segments. What else? It wouldn’t be a Local Files Club release without extras, and *God Under Siege* delivers big time. First, there’s a bonus post-credits scene featuring Mike and Ruth, then a hour long conversation with the creators and cast members about the making of the show, *then* a full soundtrack of cues from the score by Jon Lily, Jude Hodgson Hann, and Oliver Morris. And outside of the audio, *God Under Siege* also comes with the first issue of a comic book adaptation by Jack Fitzpatrick.
